Self-Reflective-Journal: Week Ten: 3/10/24

In week ten we got our feedback back from Dr Kennedy. Dr Kennedy pointed out useful animation posing flaws that would need a clean-up. I would need to work with the brows syncing up with the timing of the source video. For eyes, I would need to add fine-scale movements and make the eyes less tired-looking. The mouth screen-right mouth would need to be higher compared to the screen-left corner. I knew I would have to go back and do so major clean-up and changes to the posing for each face group. I wanted to achieve an animation that was similar to the source material. I was nervous about where to even start as I would have to analyse the footage again more carefully taking into account everything Dr Kennedy mentioned. I would also have to continue adding to my course blog and being more introspective with my learning. I'm glad to have some clear feedback to follow, getting Dr Kennedy's feedback was very useful as things I didn't see or notice made more sense when pointed out from someone else perspective.

For this week's tutorial, I would need to flatten the feet. From the front view of the feet, it is not flat and on a slant. I selected my feet controller and in the graph editor, I selected rotate Y and dragged my curve up the grid till it looked straight/linear. Since my feet don't move or have a step I focused on getting the feet as straight as possible to the floor plane. After getting the feet done I needed to get the body data cleaned up. Dr Kennedy mentioned working from the most influence of the body i.e. the hips then working our way down from the hips through to the midsection then to the shoulders arms and head. I selected the big polygonal control near the hips and in the graph editor. I then enabled buffer curves (curves-snapshot) and started trying to make my curves as smooth and curved as possible to mimic human movement. After cleaning the hips (body_ctrl) I started on the spine controls. For the fifth spine control, I made the translation X, Y, and Z zero as the curves were very sporadic. After cleaning up the spine I will start on the clavicle then shoulders, elbows and wrist. I'll then do the head, neck and knees.

There was lots of clean-up to do. I was a little stressed but knew if I kept doing a small amount daily I could finish everything. I knew I would have to start fixing the face with the feedback Dr Kennedy gave. For Thursday's class this week I planned to try and finish the clean-up for the middle half of the body.
