Self-Reflective-Journal: Week Seven: 29/08/24
This week I retargeted the mouth. Dr Kennedy looked over my work and recommended I move the mouth down slightly and the sharp corners of the mouth. Luckily this was a easy fix to add in my posing file. Dr Kennedy also said a little bit of jitteriness will be fine. In scenes where the mouth stays neutral or unchanged the mouth slightly moves shakily, I would also need to ad any nose movements in the eyes group. I could then start clean-up of the retarget once I have added all the feedback Dr Kennedy mentioned.

For this week I started clean-up. I first retimed my retargeted file from 59.94fps to 24fps this means I had to go into graph editor and change the curves going into the resample curve menu and changing the resample to Gaussian 4 with a time step of 4. Then I copied the second key and middle mouse dragged the frame to 1 and keyed the start so the start fit with the video timing. I ten saved the file under the name 'RETIMED' then made another copy of the file under the name 'BROWS CLEANUP'. I followed Dr Kennedy's workflow on the brows by starting on the 'Brow raise inner and brow down. I used the alt and shift button to move and change curves and points on the graph editor timeline. I put Buffer curve on to see my progress on the changes I do on the keys in the timeline. I continued to go through the different controllers cleaning up in the graph editor. This was a tedious process, I was quite worried I would do something wrong as I am not that experienced In graph editor, but I think as I went through each controller I got the hang of the process and was able to confidently delete and move keys and manipulate curves.

My goal was to do one section a day. On Wednesday I started the brows and finished the clean-up for all the sections related to that face group. Then I would work on the eyes and mouth the following days. Since we had to submit a formative of a playblast of our character animation, I wanted to get my PEcap work done as quick a possible as I didn't want to fall behind. During the two week break, the first week I solely worked on clean up. I was able to do brows on Wednesday and Thursday start eyes and Friday finish eyes and start mouth. I decided I would come on Saturday as the mouth group was the longest face group to clean-up as there are several controllers to clean in the graph editor.

On the 12th I had finished the clean up pass and followed the formative video submission guidelines for the playblast. I believe my skills in the graph editor got better and my analysing skills were put to the test when trying to achieve all the proper timing and facial cues for each face group. I edited the audio in after effects and put the video into handbrake.
